PROJECT OVERVIEW
The award-winning UNSW Bookshop has been a central part of UNSW Sydney’s intellectual landscape on campus since 1962.
55 years on, UNSW invested in refurbishing the popular store into a world-class social and cultural destination on campus centred around books, as they are a gateway to knowledge and learning.
The vision was to make the UNSW Bookshop a venue to attract students, staff and neighbours and facilitate engagement opportunities for UNSW and the broader community; foster creativity and public engagement with a vibrant university cultural space.
To align with the UNSW Strategy 2025 for social engagement, the Bookshop was enhanced with the addition of a café, indoor and outdoor seating, and beautiful interior design all of which creates a vibrant space to hold events and foster conversations about ideas.
The refurbishment was designed to support an expanded events program including book launches and talks from top Australian and international authors and performers, book clubs, student events and book readings for children.
With this project, Estate Management set about turning an already successful venue into an even better one. The UNSW Bookshop was Campus Bookseller of the Year in 2012, 2014, 2016 and 2017, and runner-up in 2015.
The 430 square metre store includes a new central room for events, a reading room, and a café with indoor and outdoor seating space for 40 patrons.
