The largest open space on campus, the Village Green, is about to be transformed into a world-class environment.
The vision for the Village Green is to create a vibrant and connected space that provides sport, social, recreational and wellness activities where students, staff and the community can come together to relax, exercise, socialise and play.
For students and Arc, the redevelopment of the Village Green will offer an enhanced student experience with more opportunities for both social and competitive student sport and activities than ever before.
The new space will contribute to enabling the UNSW Sport Strategy to deliver the most inclusive university sports experience in Australia through exceptional sports programs and social amenities.
The new Village Green will feature:
- Competition-standard multi-purpose pitch
- Multi-purpose courts for netball, basketball and futsal
- Basketball half-court
- 500m walking and running track
- Outdoor gym equipment
- Urban farm
- Mounded grandstand
- Barbeque amenities
- Retail and events facilities
An important aspect of this project is the upgrade of the below ground stormwater infiltration tank.
The Village Green is an essential part of the campus stormwater and infiltration system.
Aligned with UNSW’s Environmental Sustainability Plan 2019-2021, a new tank will be installed to capture all the campus stormwater in the University’s catchment area underground and contribute to recharging the Botany Aquifer.
Estate Management is commencing works on the site from December 2019. Alternative sporting locations on campus for 2020 will be announced soon.
It is expected the transformed Village Green will re-open early 2021.
